Employee Spotlight: Alexa’s Story
Alexa Trogman (née Hreha) is a newer addition to the Kingdom Causes Bellflower (KCB) family, but already she has seen God moving in and through her work with clients. Alexa filled the role of Housing Case Manager back in October of 2023, after having previously worked in several different fields including at a teen psychological treatment center, a restaurant, and also in aerospace sales! She also obtained a real estate license and completed a restaurant management course! Pretty impressive, we’d say. While her career has been marked by personal success and professional burnout, Alexa sees her path as a culmination of experiences that have prepared her for this job at KCB. The various skills and tools she acquired over time have equipped her to interact with clients, landlords, and coworkers alike. On the years of job changes, Alexa shared, “God kept pulling my heart to the vulnerable.” Alexa loves that KCB is a place where God is the center and she can actively integrate her faith with her work. KCB gives her a WHY that makes the hard times bearable and the good times all the more joyous.
As a Housing Case Manager, Alexa helps clients who are either looking for housing or at risk of eviction after not being able to pay rent. Alexa walks with clients through the process of program qualification and needs assessments, working with the clients and their landlords to decide what services would be most helpful to each neighbor. If they are approved for rental assistance, Alexa acquires a check from the Bellflower Prevention fund, or LMIHAF, and oversees payment of the landlord. After this initial service, Alexa intentionally maintains relationships with clients, following up every month to assess their ongoing success and helping them plan out budgets. Of her day-to-day responsibilities, Alexa said, “My number one is I advocate for the client.” She is grateful for the opportunity to give a sense of control to clients whose lives may be full of chaos through her case management approach. In all its programs, KCB looks to provide neighbors with compassionate assistance that recognizes each individual’s inherent human value and personal dignity.
Alexa’s work is not always glamorous. Sometimes she must navigate difficult funding laws, or deal with heavy emotions. In the challenging, discouraging moments, Alexalooks to her WHY for encouragement to press on. She said, “My WHY is that I want others to know Jesus and know that He’s there for them too.... The solution to burnout is not self-care, it’s not self-anything. It’s Jesus. That’s what keeps me going.” Even when she doesn’t feel capable of doing her work, when the emotional burden becomes nearly unbearable, Alexa finds strength and comfort in the undeniable truth that God is strongest in our weaknesses. Her feelings of inability provide the room for God to work powerfully.
Alexa’s story is living proof that God can use anybody for His good will. For Alexa, finding a job is not about going somewhere where you play to your strengths, but rather positioning yourself to surrender ALL that you have—your strengths, your weaknesses, and all the beautiful myriad of ways God made you—and offer yourself up to the purposes the Lord has for your work. Working at KCB amongst a staff with radically different life experiences reminds Alexa of the disciples of Jesus. Jesus entered into the disciples’ workplaces and called them to a better version of their work, one that would serve the community and spread the love of the Gospel. Alexa’s hope and prayer for KCB is that it would continue to find strength in surrender, and grow as the Lord refines each staff member.
“It’s so clear that I’m supposed to be here,” Alexa said. “I’m grateful that I went through all those things because now I’m even more confident that Jesus is the only way. It‘s not really my work doing anything, it’s all God. It’s all Jesus, period.” Wherever you work, whatever your day-to-day involves, may you also seek out surrender and partnership with the powerful work of the Lord.
