KCB Family Fun Day 2024

At KCB, we believe in the power of community and family. Our recent Family Fun Day brought together staff and their families for a day filled with connection in an effort to highlight that belief. Following the event, we asked some team members what they thought.

For Alexa, the highlight of Family Fun Day was meeting her coworkers’ families. She shared, "It was so fun to see my coworkers in their most natural state, which was loving on their families. I feel closer to my coworkers having met the people they love most, and I feel like I can finally put faces and personalities to the names I hear in stories.” One of the coolest moments for Alexa was witnessing everyone take turns on the rock-climbing wall, cheering each other on. "You could hear adults and kids alike cheering one another on. To me, this is symbolic of what we hope to accomplish at KCB. Encouraging one another to keep going and not give up. And reminding them they are safe as they attempt to climb to new heights in their lives," she said. This spirit of support is what we strive to create in our community, both within our organization and beyond.

Just being at the Family Fun Day had an impact on her sense of belonging as well. As someone new to the area and from a small family, she expressed her gratitude for the sense of community KCB provides. "I am so grateful for the way that KCB strives to give us all a sense of community and belonging. I hope that through us all feeling like we belong somewhere, we can offer that same feeling to any neighbor who may lack a sense of belonging.”

Andrew found joy in seeing the organization in a different setting, as parents and family members. "Seeing my colleagues in a different setting with their families in a different role. i.e. as a mom, dad, son, daughter, spouse, was really encouraging," he shared. Andrew also appreciated the trust he felt allowing his children to play with other kids, knowing and trusting their parents. "It was great to see that we could all have fun together even after spending so much time together at work. We are more than just coworkers clocking in and out every day," he added. This trust and camaraderie are essential components of our community at KCB.

George's favorite part of the event was the raffle. "The event helped me connect better with my coworkers because we got to see an extended part of them with their loved ones, which we don't usually experience in the office," he said. George also highlighted the importance of sharing meals together, a perfect way to connect. "When we were all chowing down was nice, we all gotta eat. We all connect over food," he mentioned. These shared experiences strengthen our bonds and remind us of the importance of community.

Candace enjoyed meeting everyone’s families and learning more about them through the bingo game. A memorable moment for her was using the photo booth and trying to capture a good picture with George’s nephews. "Attending Family Fun Day made me feel more united with my coworkers – we were able to pray together, share a meal, have friendly competitions, and just hang out as a family," Candace shared.

Family Fun Day was more than just an event; it was a celebration of community, family, and the values we hold. Through shared experiences, encouragement, and a deep sense of belonging, we continue to build a strong community. As we reflect on the day, we are reminded of our mission to mobilize the community and provide transformative services so that every homeless neighbor has a place to live, work, and belong. We are grateful for our KCB family and the joy and connection that Family Fun Day brought to us all. We hope for bigger and better things at next year’s Family Fun Day!
