“Live” Week: Teamwork

At KCB, our mission is all about making sure everyone in our community has a place to live, work, and belong. This week, as we focus on the “Live” part of our mission, we want to share a story that shows how working together can change lives.

Recently, we had the chance to support someone who found themselves in a tough spot after losing a long-time job. Without stable housing and struggling to find work, life felt like an uphill battle. They were on the streets, facing the reality of trying to stay clean and prepared for job interviews, which made everything even harder. This is where our collaboration with some partners came into play. We teamed up with the Share program, which also helps people find housing and job opportunities. Working together with Share and the Path team, we tackled the challenges step by step.

Thanks to the Paramount funding program, we were able to cover the deposit and the last month’s rent for a new apartment. On top of that, we secured six months of rent support to give this individual the breathing room needed to focus on finding a job without the stress of immediate rent payments. One of the standout moments was working with a landlord who knew about our programs. They agreed to hold a unit for this individual, giving us the time we needed to pull everything together.

After a few months of hard work, this individual moved into their new home. With housing stabilized, they could turn their attention to job interviews and start rebuilding their career. It was a huge step forward, made possible by the combined efforts of the individual, our team here, the Share program, Path, Paramount, and the landlord.

This story is an example of how teamwork can make a real difference. By coming together, different organizations can offer the support that people need to get back on their feet—addressing their housing, financial, and employment needs. It’s a reminder that, with the right support and collaboration, even the toughest challenges can be overcome.
